Meet the Winemaking Team

Our wines compete on a world stage thanks to the talents of Winemaker Matthew Meyer and Assistant Winemaker Stacey Lightfoot. Matthew worked at some of the most elite wineries in the nation, including Heitz Wine Cellars in Napa Valley, California, prior to joining the Williamsburg Winery in 2002. Matthew and Stacey embrace the artistic concept in winemaking that goes hand in hand with applying modern technology. The dedication and innovation of the entire team continues to elevate Virginia as a significant wine producing region and industry leader.

Virginia Peninsula
American Viticultural Area

The Virginia Peninsula is the commonwealth’s newest American Viticultural Area (AVA), a distinction only awarded to areas with unique geographic features that distinctly affect the flavor of the wine. A subtropical climate, extended growing season and maritime features similarly to the weather patterns of Bordeaux distinguish Virginia’s eighth AVA, home to five wineries, including the largest, the Williamsburg Winery.
