Library Wines - The Williamsburg Winery

2019 Monticello Chardonnay Limited Release

100% Chardonnay

This is the first 100% concrete egg aged Chardonnay from The Williamsburg Winery, and I could not be happier. The wine exhibits a plethora of fresh fruits such as pineapple, pear, apple, apricot, lemon, and peach. With the fruit are some lovely notes of grass/hay, wildflowers, butterscotch, and vanilla with a bit of minerality/chalky notes. On the palate the wine is fruit forward with a wonderful balance and a lingering finish. This could end up being one of my favorite chardonnays! Thank you Sheldon(s)!

2019 Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

An elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with a nice balance between the red and dark fruits; think mixed berry pie. The fruit notes are seamlessly integrated with the earthy characters of mushrooms, olives and terra cotta. Additionally, there are some lovely floral aspects that add a nice layer with the fruit. The finish is fruit forward with elements of brightness and cocoa. The oak is flawlessly integrated with the other layers of the wine making for a wonderful balance. The tannins are big yet quite approachable and complement the overall structure of the wine. This Cabernet Sauvignon should pair well with many different foods.

2019 M.P.T. Limited Release

41% Merlot, 39% Petit Verdot, 20% Tannat

For the first MPT I am very pleased with the results.  This wine is showcasing some lovely black cherry, blueberry, strawberry, rhubarb, and black figs.  The fruit elements are well paired with the earthy forest floor along with some cedar box which then flows into some cinnamon and sweet spice. There is also just a touch of cocoa and cola as well as a floral note.  All these layers are well integrated with the oak nuances which also give some graphite and vanilla.  The finish is fruit forward and lengthy with some firm yet approachable tannins.

2020 Field Blend No. 1, Limited Release

57% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon

Visually the wine is very appealing with a wonderful dark garnet hue. Aromatically the wine is bursting with bright candied raspberries, strawberries, and dark cherries. Additional there is a nostalgic touch of candied caramel apple. Next to the fruit components is a pleasant vanilla and cola nuance which nestles up nicely with the soft earthy notes. The oak is soft and well balanced with the fruit and mellow tannins. A very approachable wine that will continue to evolve nicely.

2020 Field Blend No. 2, Limited Release

67% Petit Verdot, 33% Tannat

A harmonious wine with multiple layers of different fruits starting with cherry, cranberry and rhubarb. Then moving into the darker blueberry and black cheery, with the dried figs and dates finishing the line up. The next layer then goes into rich chocolate and vanilla with a smattering of nutmeg, clove, and fresh straw/hay. The wine has a nice chalky minerality which blends well with the earth and fruit nuances. The finish is bright with soft red fruits. The tannins are well integrated with the oak and provide a long comfortable finish.

2020 Field Blend No. 3, Limited Release

80% Cabernet Franc, 20% Tannat

This blend carries a nice balance between some black cherries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries along with the darker figs, dates and plum notes. All the fruits are enveloped with a touch of chocolate, molasses, and cola. Additionally, there is a pleasant chalky minerality which leads into some leather and earthy tones of forest floor and truffles, with a hint of cinnamon and clove. The wine wonderfully balanced between the oak, tannins and fruits making for a rich mouthfeel. The tannins are well integrated and add to the overall balance and structure of the wine.

Williamsburg Winery Wessex Hundred Petit Verdot Cognac Barrels.
2020 Wessex Hundred Petit Verdot Aged in Cognac Barrels

100% Petit Verdot

Like the 2020 Wessex Hundred non-Cognac barrels there is the abundance of black cherry, blueberry, and plum, with the same smokey earth characters with the graphite minerality and herbal nuances.  Additionally, the cognac barrels lend an elegant touch of fig, cassis, pear and vanilla notes, that are a nice compliment to the petit verdot. The mouthfeel is rich and fruit forward with just the slightest touch of the cognac making for a wonderful balance.  Overall the finish is robust with all the varied elements working together.  A distinctive petit Verdot!
